Why Ginko?

Nature is my main source of inspiration in creating any art form, especially jewelry. I have used many variations of the themes that relate to the four elements of nature, from water and fire to earth, which includes all the botanical species.

The most predominant organic form that I use in my jewelry is derived from the ginkgo leaf. I have modified the shape, abstracted it, used it in a single motif or in a grouping, from sterling silver and PMC, which has allowed me to use an actual leaf to make a mold and then cast.

The ginkgo tree has fascinated me for years. Maybe it’s the fact that I saw ginkgo motifs on so many buildings in Prague when I lived there for four years; maybe it’s because this species goes back 270 million years, or that it’s even more beautiful when all the leaves turn to an amazing golden color just before falling; maybe because of the characteristics of its prevailing species (Ginkgo Biloba), with the number two contained in one… Whatever the reason, my fascination with ginkgo leaf and its usage in my designs continues.
